Clemson Freeride was originally founded in the fall of 2006. It was started by the fearless leader Jonathan "Papa Bear" Howlette who came to Clemson University with a passion for extreme mountain biking held deep in his loins. Following him was an entourage of thrillseekers destined to change mountain biking in Clemson. The rest is history in the making.
Clemson Freeride built its first downhill trail, sometimes referred to as "Juevos del Tigre", which was finished in the spring of 2007. The club has also just finished another thrilling end to the already popular downhill course. The club has also resurrected an ancient dual slalom course (circa 2001) which was so highly acclaimed that conference championships were held on it.
The club is made up of an eclectic group of Clemson students who love to shred the gnar. There is a mix of everyone from the laid back thrill seekers to podium hungry racers.
